Niagara Regional Tournament Questions and Answers

Here is a summary of Q&A to date for the Niagara Regional Tournament:

  1. No extra lunch tickets are being sold at the event. Spectators and 'extra' members may purchase lunch from the cafeteria. The cafeteria opens at 10am and has standard food and pricing (Coffee/tea $1.10-1.35, Soup, $1.70, pre-made sandwich, $2.99, pizza, $2.80 for a BIG slice, the Grill will be open serving blt's, all day breakfast, burgers, fries, etc. Range in price $3-5.)

  2. All documentation for scheduling, judging, scoring etc. is done using your FLL Team Number. The draft schedule I sent out has placeholders labeled "Team 1", "Team 2" and so on .. this is not related to any list. The Team Planner for the Tournament Day is to be filled out when you arrive, not before. You do not have a pre-designated time slot ... Teams will be logged in the order they arrive ... luck of the draw so to speak. The final schedule is the one handed out on Saturday morning which is why the word "draft" appears on your copy. We are not anticipating any changes at this time but I need some sort of "out" .... incase a last minute mistake is noticed.

  3. If you bring a valuables (ie: laptop, cameras, video equipment), please do not leave them unattended or unlocked. This event is open to the public so take standard precautions with your stuff.

  4. Please bring a box to place over your RCX and Tower when downloading programs in the pit area. The practice tables are also located in the pit area so you can do all your programming at your pit table and not have to drag your computer back and forth ... if you program at the practice table, do so on the floor .. the practice tables are NOT to be used as work desks .. they were graciously loaned by other teams and you should treat them accordingly.

  5. 120VAC receptacles will be provided in the pit area near your table. It is always a good idea to bring an extra short extension cord / power bar just in case (always be prepared).

  6. Turn off your RCX and / or keep it in a box when not in use to avoid catching stray infrared signals by accident. Taping over the RCX IR port does not guarantee you will be protected but some teams have used a short piece of black electrical tape just in case.

  7. RCX REMOTE CONTROLS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYWHERE IN THE PIT, PRACTICE OR COMPETITION AREAS. PLEASE LEAVE THEM AT HOME.

  8. Project and Technical Judging is done in 15 minute fixed increments. During this time, teams must arrive, setup (if required), present, answer questions, pack up and then depart. The judges then need a few minutes to talk and score. To ensure the day runs smooth, timing is critical .. if you presentation goes over the 5 minutes allotted, for example, the judges will have less time to ask you questions, please keep this in mind.

  9. Tournament staff will be wearing blue colored golf shirts. Two groups of high school students will be helping coordinate getting your teams to and from the competition and judging areas .. please be cooperative, they are there to look after you and your team. The students are from Governor Simco and Westlane Secondary Schools and can be identified by their First Robotic Team Shirts.

  10. Since we have a staging area next to the competition area, your teams will be expected to be staged 5 - 10 minutes before your competition time. Be prepared ....
